Figure # 1
Characters from DNA have become essential to phylogenetic studies of
fungi. Our work on yeasts from the gut of beetles would not be possible
without the use of molecular methods. This cartoon, drawn by John
Carambat, illustrates the demise of major evolutionary hypotheses about
fungi based on DNA-based analyses. A competing hypothesis for each of
these, however, was well supported. [From Blackwell, M. 1994.
